One of the older theaters in Denver, the Mayan has a lot of character. Mayan iconographic paintings line the walls of the auditorium. The sound is pretty good, considering the age of the theater. I believe a recent renovation brought a new sound system. The Mayan is a medium-sized theater with a reasonable, medium-sized screen. This theater is not a bad place to see art-house films in Denver.
What used to be a balcony is now a second theater. Because of my bad experience with the balcony-cum-theater at the Esquire, I have avoided the upstairs shows at the Mayan.
